CAMPOBELLO ISLAND

Campobello Island - Unspoiled Nature at it's Best

It is difficult to describe Campobello Island to someone who has never been there. There really is no other place like it. The local tourism association describes the island by saying “Campobello Island will capture your heart with breathtaking views, unspoiled nature at it’s best”. This really is what Campobello Island is all about; a place that is largely untouched by the sometimes overwhelming pressures of urban cities and commercialized centres.  A visit or stay on Campobello Island is often all that is needed to refresh your soul.

Perhaps this is why Canadians and Americans have been making Campobello their summer retreat since 1881. Among some of the notable people that have lived here were the 32nd US president, Franklin D. Roosevelt (FDR) and his wife Eleanor Roosevelt. The Roosevelt cottage still stands today and can be seen by visiting the Roosevelt Campobello International Park.

Campobello Island is one of the best places in the world to watch whales. There are several whale watching boats that offer tours and they all have an excellent success rate. While you are on the island, be sure also to check out the island’s two working lighthouses, the Head Harbour and Mulholland Lighthouses. Finally, a visit to Campobello Island would not be complete without dining on some delicious fresh seafood!
